The Maine Energy Marketers Association (MEMA), a nonprofit organization established in 1954, is a 501c(6) trade association. Serving as advocates for our members in Augusta and in the media, we keep legislators and the public informed about Maine’s energy industry.
Through education and outreach, our mission is to provide fair and truthful information to inform Maine homeowners about their home energy options. Maine Energy Facts was created as a platform for making this complex subject understandable and actionable.
We represent more than 300 members, including 125 heating oil, propane, biofuels and motor fuels providers as well as convenience store owners. Our members own and operate 70% of Maine’s 1,300 convenience stores, selling more than one billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel, and distribute more than 90% of all the propane sold in our state each year. MEMA also has more than 175 associate members who provide goods and services to Maine’s petroleum dealers and their customers.
The thousands of people employed by the oilheat industry—both directly and indirectly—make up these independent businesses, which are integral to the local economies throughout the state and state’s economy as a whole.
From Bioheat® fuel to propane to wood pellets, Maine homeowners have a range of energy-efficient fuel options to choose from, each with its own advantages and benefits. Please explore Maine Energy Facts to learn more!
